Summary: The fight to stop a 'bypass' being built through Solsbury Hill, near Bath, threatens to destroy an ancient Celtic hill-fort. Protestors from around the country join locals to defend the hill.
Title number: 22972
LSA ID: LSA/30196
Description: The video consists mostly of footage of direct action and some talking head interviews with various protestors. We see their organising tactics where they set up a campaign office in a squatted house that sits in the road’s path, or people squatting on the land. In an intense sequence, we see protestors react to a man, Martin, who has plummeted to the ground from a treehouse after construction workers saw it down while sheriffs watch. Martin was hospitalised for 5 months. The video ends with the statement: “Two local schemes were paused since the protests started. But the Batheston-Swainswick bypass is still being built.”
