Summary: Did the police go too far in baton-charging protestors in Oxford? A short video on police violence.
Title number: 22971
LSA ID: LSA/30195
Description: On the 1st August 1994, activists squatted an abandoned cinema and a nurses’ home in Oxford, intending to turn them into a homeless shelter and arts centre. The same day, police violently evicted both buildings, arresting 15 people. Supporters went down to the station demanding their release. We see footage of the violent force of police officers and the protests that ensued at the station. Tony Stopford, Vice Chairman of the Thames Valley Police Authority was invited to watch a video and discuss what happened next with mostly evasive language.
