Summary: Housing campaigners transform the derelict Courthouse in Brighton into a community space
Title number: 22966
LSA ID: LSA/30191
Description: The video begins with heavy electronic music and two costumed men who open the door to a roaring audience in a camp performance. We see young people cleaning, decorating and moving furniture into the formerly derelict Britghton Courthouse which was left empty for five years by Alford Development. The young people chose not to depend on the government but on mutual aid, setting up the new community centre themselves. The DIY ethic created a thriving community centre with workshops, performances, music and cinema screening. We see a young woman making popcorn in a huge pot for the crowds.
