Summary: Video telling the story of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. A documentary portrait of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in Aldgate, East London. The video tells the history of the foundry from its earliest recorded beginning in the 15th century through to the present day. The video shows the traditional skills and technologies old and modern used in the making of church and hand bells as well as the unique atmosphere of the foundry. The actions of forging, moulding and smoothing are recorded in brief. The video also features some of the famous customers of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, including: the Houses of Parliament (the bell Big Ben), Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, the cathedrals of Canterbury, York, Liverpool and Lincoln, the London churches of St Mary-Le-Bow (the famous bow bells) and St. Martin in the Field, as well as St. Peter Mancroft in Norwich and St. Michael's church in Birmingham's Bullring. A set of new bells are seen being installed in a rural church.
