Summary: Video about the clean-up at the Laporte Works, Uphall Road, Ilford, formerly known as Howards & Sons Chemicals. Howards was best known for manufacturing quinine and aspirin and was located in Uphall Road, Ilford from 1897 until its closure in 1980. The site was decontaminated and archaeological excavations undertaken by the Passmore Edwards Museum to discover the Uphall Iron Age camp in 1984 and 1987. This archive is now at Redbridge Museum. The factory site was redeveloped for housing in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
