In The Garden
Standard 8mm film Black & White Mute 1957 3:58
Summary: Filmed by Victor Ashlee and now part of Bexley's Ashlee Family Films collection, this grainy black-and white film shows toddler Christine, the Ashlee's first born, feeding, bathing and helping around the house and garden.
Title number: 19586
Description: The toddler Christine is lifted into a high chair by Mother. The child is given a spoon and begins to eat her food. She gets lifted out of her chair and then her mother leaves the room. Then we see the child having a bath in a butler sink. The mother washes her and lifts her out to dry. Her mother playfully holds her up to the mirror. The child runs around naked after her bath, picking up toys. The mother then dresses the child and puts her nappy on while she is on her lap. Then the mother struggles to tie up Christine's dungarees while she would rather be picking up a bottle from the floor. The child then gets out the hose of a vacuum cleaner. She gets distracted by some wellington boots whilst her mother brings in the rest of the vacuum cleaner. The mother starts vacuuming and the child comes over to help. The mother dresses the child in a coat, ready to go outside. Now in the garden the child is wearing a light-coloured bonnet and holding a trowel which she uses to dig in the border. She moves soil into her wooden trolley and then starts pushing the trolley along. Mother watches with her head out of the window. The child tries to move a wooden fence and then she walks past a large dark-coloured pram.
