Summary: Professor Iain Gillespie lectures on the hormones of the gastrointestinal tract. He describes how this field of study is relatively new because previously it was not thought that there were hormones secreted directly from the gastrointestines. In his lecture, he concentrates on the three main hormones: gastrin, secretin and cholecystokinin (CCK). He describes the function of each and discusses their pharmacological actions in diagnosis or treatment of gastrointestinal disease. 5 segments.
