Summary: In the first of two lectures, Professor Ivor Mills talks about the regulation of sodium excretion by the kidneys. It is a rather technical lecture - Mills himself describes the process of regulated renal sodium excretion as 'one of the most complex mechanisms in physiology'. He gives an account of the history of research into this area, using many detailed charts and diagrams to illustrate his points and highlight the major research breakthroughs of others into this complex field. 8 segments
