My mother, Peggy Kinnear, was the registered nurse there and managed all of the drugs that had to be administered to the kids with special medical needs. I tried to set up a Scout get-together there when I was still a teenager to give them something of interest to do. However, the range of disabilities was so severe that any normal activites just could not happen. There were kids with brittle bones and haemapheliacs who got injured just with grazing touches. Spina bifida, thalidomide kids and one you guy who had climbed a 330,000 volt pilon and had both of his arms burned off. He had artificial limbs operated by straps across his chest. He was alway a high spirited kid, not much younger than me.
I would love to see the film to see if my mum is in it! I am 72 now.
