Description

Amateur film about the road safety campaign by the Bexley, Erith & Crayford Road Safety Committee.

Poster 'We Want Crossings not Coffins'. The Original Superior Paragon Brass Band. Street scenes of busy road including Routemaster buses (no. 122). People with 'crossings not coffins' and 'slow down in town' placards. Protestors and brass band march down street past Upton Farm Stores, cinema, shop called Wendy. Bexley, Erith & Crayford Road Safety Committee. Marchers are followed by a truck pulling a caravan with road safety posters on the side. Sign marked 'Bexley, Erith & Crayford Road Safety Office Top Floor. Bexley National Savings Committee First Floor. Moral Welfare Top Floor. Rooms Available for Hire by Local Organisations - for particulars apply Town Clerks Dep' Council Offices'. Man exiting offices with envelope marked 'Upton Road Pedestrian Light Controlled-Crossing Petition' addressed to the Rt. Hon. Ernest Marples MP at the House of Commons (number 1,323 on the envelope). Man gets into car with envelope. Shot from car crossing Westminster Bridge with the Houses of Parliament in the background, travelling shot past St Stephen's Tower (Big Ben). Man walking outside Parliament.
