Merton & Morden Auxiliary Fire Service 1939-1941
The film of the Morden and Merton Auxillary Fire Service during WWII follows a Percy Porker cartoon 'The Fireman Goes on Duty'. The amateur film records the activities of members of the local Auxiliary Fire Service, from the phoney war period until the Blitz, taking part in various exercises and drills before a re-enacted episode records the support provided by this brigade in tackling the fires during the Blitz in central London.

Bruce Robertson collection: Bruce Robertson Reel 2, Merton Park (1940s)
Lion cubs and London babies. London Zoo and little babies feature in this home movie that shows domestic life in south London as well as shots of lion cubs, penguins and polar bears. While this home movie – shot in the years following the Second World War – largely shows children playing in suburban gardens, there are also scenes from London, including one surprising shot of a lion cub being cuddled by visitors to London Zoo. Penguins and polar bears also feature, but the bulk of the footage concerns garden life in Merton Park and Morden, at the homes where Bruce Robertson’s parents and grandparents lived. Also shows holidays on unnamed beaches in Devon. Includes shots of the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Devon overlooking Dawlish Warren.
